Today's reading from the Gospel of John has always been one of my favorite chapters in the Bible. Its like reading the book of Genesis from a New Testament viewpoint.
We read how Jesus, the Word, the Logos, existed from before our Beginning. He is the Word, and that Word spoke into being all that we see and know and touch. He is the Logos, the Divine System, how God does things. He, the Word, was God and was also with God. This speaks to me of relationship. The relationship of the Trinity is the blueprint for every family on the earth.
John 1 is the story of the new Beginning. God the Son, the Word, came down to bring light into darkness. Grace and Truth came to us to heal us and show us the way. To show us the Logos, God's way of doing things.
The Second Adam came to us to undo what the first Adam began. The Second Eve, who we first see in the story of the Wedding at Cana, said to the servants "Do whatever He tells you", showing us the way to humility and obedience. She, by her Fiat, when the Archangel Gabriel brought her God's Announcement, said "do unto me according to your word" undid the disobedience of the first Eve. She opened the door to the possibility that we could all be made new.
Reading John with this perspective of the New Beginning for mankind will open up even more treasures in this Gospel.
enjoy!!
